    Mary's "Yes!"

    Mary’s “Yes!”

One of my reflection’s  from this past January’s silent retreat:

Mary, how great it was you said “Let it be done unto me!” Your fiat opened the gate to so many good blessings and to Jesus Himself. Your simplicity when asked by the Holy Spirit “How can this be since I have no relations with a man?” reflected your pure heart and your direct approach. You were probably overlooked in many circles, seen as the “goody-two-shoes.” You were not particularly noteworthy of anything up to this point in your life, except your faith which was extraordinary. You were not afraid of anything; your core was 100% made of God’s love! My fear of criticism is nothing when compared with what you faced bearing a child out of wedlock. Yet you responded in love despite what others might think of you. You didn’t live in their minds; you were concerned with only one mind, namely, the mind of God. Ultimately, that’s the only one that really matters. I pray that I may reflect your great faith by only being concerned with what God thinks of me.

“Of his kingdom there will be no end” (Lk 1:33). God triumphs in the end; Mary knew this, and we need to as well! We cannot serve both God and man; either to God or away from Him. Seek perfection, not mediocrity.

“Behold I am the handmaid of the Lord, may it be done to me according to your word” (Lk 1:38). Amen.
